Position Overview:
Become a vital part of a leading academic healthcare institution, The University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, as a Laboratory Support Technician within the Laboratory Services division. In this role, you will be responsible for executing phlebotomy duties, managing order entry, conducting central processing, performing EKGs, and assisting with laboratory testing. You will also support various testing procedures as necessary. Upon achieving full proficiency at this level, there may be opportunities for advancement to a higher technician level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct supportive tasks related to patient care, which include clerical, technical, and venipuncture duties, as well as blood specimen collection and EKG acquisition.
- Engage with patients to provide exceptional service, addressing inquiries and managing test result communications.
- Prepare human specimens for transfer to designated laboratory departments for analysis.
- Execute technical procedures following provided training and demonstrated competency.
- Utilize interactive processes to exceed the expectations of patients and healthcare providers, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective care.
- Exhibit the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver patient care according to specific departmental competencies.
- Adapt to varying degrees of unpredictability in daily tasks, adjusting work schedules and assignments as needed.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), progressing towards proficiency with hospital billing systems.
- Willingness to learn and perform laboratory testing is essential.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is mandatory.
- AHA CPR Certification is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program or certification from recognized organizations such as:
- ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists)
- AMT (American Medical Technologist)
- NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards)
- NPA (National Phlebotomy Association)
- ASCLS (American Society for Clinical Laboratory Scientists)
- NCA (National Certifying Agency)
- NHA (National Healthcare Association)
Position Details:

- Shift: Rotating Day Shift with weekend and holiday requirements
