Position Overview

This role is for an Air Reserve Technician (ART) who plays a crucial part in the ongoing development and management of the training initiatives within the unit's maintenance division. ARTs are integral to the federal workforce, enjoying the same benefits as other federal employees.

Eligibility Criteria

This position is available to:
  • Career transition candidates (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) who are defined as 'surplus' or 'displaced' employees.
  • Current or former federal employees in competitive service.
  • Current excepted service federal employees.
  • Former term or temporary federal employees from land or base management agencies.
  • Military spouses.
  • Veterans.
Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is: To oversee and enhance the training framework within the maintenance organization. This encompasses a variety of training modalities including on-the-job training (OJT), civilian training mandates, re-training, formal education, instructional systems development (ISD), professional military education, ancillary training, and unit training strategy. Responsibilities also include providing expert guidance to management on training program elements, preparing status briefings, and delivering training to newly assigned personnel and reservists.

Specific Duties Include:

1. Directing and managing the comprehensive maintenance training program.

2. Implementing and supervising all facets of the On-the-Job Training program for maintenance personnel, including ARTs, reservists, and civilian staff.

3. Overseeing special certification training programs and coordinating necessary training for maintenance staff.

4. Conducting both formal and informal evaluations of training effectiveness within the unit.

5. Managing ancillary training schedules and events.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate specialized experience or educational achievements as outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, 1702 Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09: One year of specialized experience that includes a thorough understanding of maintenance missions, practices, and policies. Candidates should possess analytical skills for identifying and resolving training issues.

OR

Education: A Master's degree or equivalent graduate education, or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills for this position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that meets the 100% requirement may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  1. In-depth knowledge of AFRC Reserve mission and training methodologies.
  2. Expertise in training program management and implementation.
  3. Ability to analyze training statistics effectively.
  4. Proficiency in using automated systems for report preparation and data extraction.
  5. Understanding of maintenance Air Force Specialty Code qualifications and training requirements.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across various levels of command.
Additional Information

This position requires adherence to Air Force Reserve standards and may involve occasional travel for training purposes. The selected candidate will also be expected to maintain current certifications and may be subject to additional duties as assigned.
