PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To deliver comprehensive underwriting services for property, liability, and workers' compensation accounts, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards, accurate rating classifications, and targeted loss ratios for both new and existing clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide underwriting services and oversight to designated clients within established authority, seeking necessary approvals for exceptions.
  • Evaluate client contract language to ensure compliance with insurance coverage requirements, limits, and additional insured status, while offering recommendations on indemnity clauses.
  • Offer technical guidance to colleagues and clients regarding policy interpretations and underwriting acceptability.
  • Collaborate with various departments and external partners, including claims and accounting, to facilitate effective communication and project execution.
  • Lead and participate in projects that influence underwriting practices and departmental functions.
  • Maintain and revise underwriting guidelines and policy manuals for self-insured pools.
  • Engage in field activities, including client meetings and educational sessions for pool members or agents.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
  • Travel as required for business purposes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Licensing: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is preferred. A property casualty insurance agent license is required within six months of employment. A valid driver's license is necessary. Preferred designations include Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and/or Certified Risk Manager (CRM).

Experience: A minimum of six years in property/casualty and/or workers' compensation underwriting or a comparable combination of education and experience is required. Experience with public entity pools and their specific exposures and coverages is preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of rating methodologies for workers' compensation, property, and liability insurance.
  • Proficient mathematical skills for accurate calculations.
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capable of problem-solving and interpreting diverse information.
  • Proven leadership skills for managing projects and team initiatives.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in producing comprehensive and constructive written reports.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
