PRIMARY PURPOSE: To deliver property, liability, and/or workers' compensation underwriting services, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards, accurate rating classifications, and targeted loss ratios for both new and existing accounts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide underwriting services and oversight to designated clients within authorized limits, seeking necessary approvals for exceptions. Evaluate client contract language to ensure compliance with insurance coverage requirements, limits, and additional insured status, while advising on indemnity clauses. Offer technical guidance to colleagues and clients regarding policy interpretations and underwriting acceptability. Collaborate with various departments and external partners, including claims and reinsurers, to facilitate effective communication and service delivery. Lead and participate in key projects that influence underwriting practices and related departments. Maintain and revise underwriting guidelines and policy manuals for self-insured pools. Engage in field activities, including attending client meetings and conducting educational sessions for stakeholders.

Undertake other duties as assigned. Travel as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Licensing:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is preferred. A property casualty insurance agent license is required within six months of employment. A valid driver’s license is necessary. Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, CIC, or CRM are preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of six years of experience in property/casualty and/or workers' compensation underwriting or a combination of education and experience is required. Experience with public entity pools and their unique exposures is preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

Comprehensive understanding of the rating methodologies for workers' compensation, property, and liability insurance. Strong mathematical abilities, enabling accurate calculations. Analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Problem-solving capabilities and the ability to interpret diverse information. Leadership skills for managing projects and team initiatives. Proficient in building effective relationships across all organizational levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to produce comprehensive and constructive written reports. Team-oriented with a commitment to achieving performance goals.
