Job Overview

The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing landscaping and maintenance tasks essential for preserving safe and visually appealing outdoor spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and dispose of litter and waste materials.
  • Utilize various maintenance tools such as shovels, rakes, and saws to accomplish tasks.
  • Operate power tools and vehicles, including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and electric clippers.
  • Ensure adequate hydration of lawns, trees, and plants through the use of sprinkler systems, hoses, and irrigation methods.
  • Trim trees and shrubs while maintaining flower beds.
  • Care for sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, fountains, and planters; perform general cleaning duties.
  • Plan and cultivate lawns and gardens, assessing further work based on landscaping designs.
  • Deliver and spread topsoil or straw over newly seeded areas.
  • Prepare and mix chemicals for application as necessary.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to grass, shrubs, and trees using appropriate methods.
  • Conduct regular and seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems, including winterization procedures.
  • Install and maintain special features such as rock gardens, retaining walls, and playground equipment.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least twelve months of experience in a related role, utilizing relevant methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Reliable transportation for commuting to work.
  • Availability to work after hours and on weekends or holidays as needed.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation duties as required.
  • Ability to obtain a pest and herbicide license within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of groundskeeping and landscaping practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Capability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of care techniques for various lawns, plants, and greenery.
  • Proficiency in operating various power equipment, including lawn mowers and trimmers.
  • Skilled in using hand tools necessary for landscaping tasks.
  • Ability to complete assignments as directed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, stretch, bend, climb, kneel, and pull for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to operate power equipment.
  • Willingness to work in diverse weather conditions.
