Job Summary

The Certified Sterile Processing Technician is a critical member of our healthcare team, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care. As a Sterile Processing Technician at Riverview Health, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and hospital policy.
  • Maintain instrumentation in working order, performing preventive maintenance tasks and verifying equipment functions properly.
  • Submit requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and move defective equipment until repair or replacement is completed.
  • Report complete and accurate data relating to the biological and quality testing of sterilization equipment.
  • Follow established procedures for receiving, decontaminating, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing medical equipment.
  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, differentiating cleaning and sterilization methods as required for specific equipment and instruments.
  • Assemble wraps and sterilize trays of instruments.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas.
  • Label, collect, and distribute instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment to units where they are needed.
Requirements
  • Minimum Required:
    • Graduate of an accredited CRCST program or CST program.
  • Preferred:
    • Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Scrub Technician.
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Minimum Required:
      • Clinical rotations completed in Central Sterile department.
    • Preferred:
      • One (1) year clinical experience in Central Sterile department.
  • License/Certification Requirements:
    • CRCST or CST within 1 year of hire or transfer into the position.
