Position Overview

The Radiology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by executing various administrative tasks related to the management of patient imaging records. This position involves the transportation of patients to and from the radiology unit as required.

Key Responsibilities

- Organizes patient file folders and compiles necessary documentation.

- Prepares imaging films for evaluation by medical professionals.

- Maintains an organized filing system for imaging records and reports.

- Implements a sign-out procedure to ensure accurate tracking of imaging films.

- Retrieves imaging films from storage and delivers them to the requesting medical staff.

- Collects imaging films on loan to other departments and ensures they are returned to their designated locations.

- Performs general office duties, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, and preparing billing documents when the administrative staff is unavailable.

- Keeps the filing area tidy and well-organized.

- Assists in transporting patients and their records to various areas for diagnostic or treatment procedures.

- Loads and unloads imaging film cassettes and processed films from the automatic processing equipment.

- May prepare photographic solutions for the development of exposed imaging films.

- Responsible for cleaning the automatic processor, imaging screens, and cassettes as per the maintenance schedule.

- Ensures the darkroom, waiting area, and examination rooms are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.

- May assist patients in changing clothes and preparing for examinations, or with restroom needs if necessary.

- Provides support to technologists in lifting and assisting patients onto the imaging examination table.

- Undertakes additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

Must have the physical capability to endure extended periods of standing and walking; lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; exerting up to 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects. The physical demands exceed those for Medium Work.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and

Grade 2: Minimum of three months of experience in a healthcare environment performing filing or aide duties.

Grade 4: At least twelve months of experience in a Radiology Department.
