Shelter Operations Associate

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general oversight of the Executive Director and Community Programs Director, with direct guidance from the Shelter Manager, the Shelter Support Staff is tasked with ensuring the smooth daily operations of the shelter, focusing on the well-being, health, and safety of both the facility and its guests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist eligible clients with the intake process, service provision, and necessary referrals.
- Direct clients to appropriate agencies or initiate the application process.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all community programs and services available.
- Adhere to regulations set forth by Agency, ESG, CSBG, United Way, and others as applicable.
- Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with service providers, volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee the daily functions of the shelter, including food service, cleanliness, safety, and security, to create a safe and effective environment for employees, clients, volunteers, and visitors.
- Manage inventory of shelter supplies and donations essential for operations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding client interactions and incidents.
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
- Ensure accurate data entry and maintenance in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and agency database, GoEngage, or other assigned software systems.
- Understand data requirements for CSBG reporting and related programs.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain confidentiality in all program aspects without inappropriate disclosure.
- Comply with CAPCA's policies and procedures at all facilities.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal shelter policies and procedures.
- Follow mandatory reporting protocols.
- Participate in professional development training as required.
- Effectively manage stress and challenges that arise from daily interactions with adults.
- Be prepared to administer first aid as needed, recognizing this as a secondary duty.
- Perform other job-related tasks as necessary for the overall operation of the programs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Preferred experience in a shelter environment.
- Proficient in managing records and preparing various documents, both in hard copy and electronically.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 12 months.
Physical Requirements:
- Good physical health and stamina.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that meets the Agency's needs.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with liability insurance for Agency-related travel.
- Able to hear and communicate effectively.
- Specific vision capabilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, using protective equipment and assistance as necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To succeed in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential function. Position is budgeted for 12 months per year.
Compensation: Full-Time position with competitive hourly rates based on shifts worked.
