Job Summary

This role requires a self-motivated individual with exceptional time management, organizational, and communication skills. A successful candidate will be highly analytical, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and be able to multitask effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and completion of lighting design and documentation necessary to deliver project results.
  • Perform a wide range of design functions, including lighting concepts, calculations, and research of fixture alternatives.
  • Conduct research and analysis of design options, preparing basis of design reports.
  • Provide lighting design solutions that meet client briefs, budgets, and relevant standards.
  • Create presentations, graphics, renderings, and imageboards to communicate design concepts.
  • Attend client meetings to present and explain lighting design concepts.
  • Produce drawings consistent with client requirements and standards.
  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs in a timely manner.
  • Oversee lighting design documentation via CAD layouts, lighting details, and specifications.
  • Review cost estimates and adjust lighting design to meet client budgets.
  • Monitor construction progress and issue field reports to the design team.
  • Conduct quality reviews and supervise final aiming of light fixtures and lighting controls programming.
  • Track project timelines and deliverables, managing tasks to ensure completion on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across disciplines and direct the work of junior lighting designers and interns.
  • Adept at working on construction sites and attending site walkthroughs and project team meetings.
  • Interface with other disciplines to coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience as a self-directed, proactive, and highly-motivated team player.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate with internal and external business partners.
  • Proclivity for catching errors and enacting appropriate changes.
  • Keen to stay current on lighting technology and design trends.
  • Member and participant of industry-related organizations such as IALD and IES.
  • Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design or Architecture/Interiors with supplemental lighting training.
  • Certified Lighting Designer (CLD), preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation.
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience designing lighting systems and performing lighting calculations for commercial buildings, hospitals, and institutional facilities.
  • Minimum of five to seven years' experience working with a design-build contractor or consulting engineering firm.
  • Solid knowledge of codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.
  • Proficient with computer graphics software including AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bluebeam Revu, and SharePoint.
Salary Range

This is a hybrid role, with working days in the office at our Monrovia, CA office. The expected salary range for candidates working in Monrovia, CA is $92,000 - $110,000. The final offer will be dependent on several factors, including experience, education, and other qualifications.
