Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector II to join our team at the City of Hartford, CT. As a key member of our Development Services Department, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures in our city meet the highest standards of safety and compliance with local codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and structures to identify any defects or non-compliance with codes and regulations
  • Issue notices of violation and conduct follow-up inspections to ensure that corrections are made
  • Interpret and apply local codes and regulations to ensure that buildings and structures meet safety standards
  • Provide information and guidance to builders, owners, and the public on building codes and regulations
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure that building projects are completed safely and in compliance with regulations
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited vocational school, high school, or the equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in building construction, electrical installation, heating and ventilation, or plumbing
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle
  • Connecticut certification as an Assistant Building Official or Building Official
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Residential Building Inspector, Heating and Cooling Inspector, or Construction Inspector license
  • Experience with building codes and regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Please note that this is a union position and the hours of this position are 40 per week. The salary includes 5% in lieu of overtime.
