Tree Climber

The City of Worcester, MA is seeking a skilled Tree Climber to join our team in the Department of Public Works and Parks. As a Tree Climber, you will be responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks related to tree trimming, pruning, spraying, and removal within the city.

• Perform manual tasks related to tree trimming, pruning, spraying, and removal
• Operate a bucket truck and work at great heights
• Identify and climb trees, and work in precarious positions
• Perform manual work requiring considerable strength and endurance
• Understand and follow verbal instructions
• Pass a pre-employment physical, reference check, and CORI check
• Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 18 months of employment

• Considerable knowledge of tree climbing, trimming, treatment, and removal methods
• Extensive knowledge and ability to tie knots used in Forestry operations
• Ability to acquire skill in the use and care of ropes, knots, climber hooks, riggings, and tools commonly used in tree trimming and felling operations
• Ability to work in a team environment and follow verbal instructions

• Starting hourly rate of $21.16 per hour
• Eligibility for overtime

Interested candidates must register on the Civil Service list for Tree Climber as soon as possible. To register, complete a Labor Service Application and submit to the City of Worcester's Human Resources Department. Applications are available in-person at City Hall and online. Completed Labor Service Applications can be submitted in-person, mailed, or emailed to the Human Resources Department.

Veterans will be given preference when applying for these positions. Proof of possession of a valid and current MA CDL license is required at time of registration.
