Position Overview

SAIC is seeking a Quality Assurance Software Engineer to enhance our Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) initiatives.

Security Clearance: An active Secret clearance is mandatory.

Role Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, testing, and debugging of software applications and systems that require low-level control processing, including interrupts, timers, digital I/O, and serial communication protocols for electronic, electro-mechanical, or electro-optic devices. This role involves developing embedded software tailored for real-time and near real-time operating systems and processors, including networking and radio systems. A fundamental understanding of complex electronic assembly schematics is essential.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including equipment designers and hardware engineers, is crucial in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for both product and commercial software. The engineer will assess user requirements, analyze system capabilities to troubleshoot issues related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Responsibilities also include preparing operating instructions and designing and developing compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems while ensuring compliance with software standards.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science (Electrical Engineering with a strong software skill set is acceptable).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer; 7 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Software Quality Assurance (SQA) throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Active Secret clearance is required.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with complex embedded real-time systems.
  • Background in developing mission-critical and/or safety-critical software.
  • Familiarity with software development for Windows/.Net and/or Red Hat environments.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages/environments: C, C++, C#, VHDL, PLC Ladder Logic.
