Job Overview

Primal Pet Group is seeking a highly skilled Refrigeration and Utilities Specialist to join their team in Abilene, Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ammonia refrigeration systems and be able to make sound judgments in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on refrigeration equipment, including defrosting and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure accurate data reporting and maintain records of refrigeration logs and fire protection systems.
  • Work with ammonia equipment, boilers, and other systems to identify and resolve issues.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and assist with work requests as needed.
  • Operate and maintain compressed air systems, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
  • Support the plant's process safety management system (PSM) and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform tasks using ammonia full-face gas masks and become certified.
  • Understand and implement lock/out tag out procedures for electrical, mechanical, and valve shut off sequences.
  • Repair and maintain industrial refrigerated storage equipment, HVAC, buildings, and surrounding grounds.
  • Provide refrigeration repair and maintenance support to industrial refrigerated storage equipment.
  • Perform routine and emergency service on ammonia refrigeration equipment.
  • Use working knowledge of screw and reciprocal compressors, electrical troubleshooting, and control/alarm systems to perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements.
  • Evaluate customer needs and make recommendations for correction and/or improvement.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
  • Mentor/train other maintenance technicians for refrigeration backup.
  • Perform all work within the confines of safety rules and regulations.
  • Work at heights when necessary.
Requirements
  • High school degree (or GED)
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial refrigeration/ammonia/HVAC/R experience
  • RETA 1&2 certification preferred or willingness to become certified
  • 3-5 years' experience with anhydrous ammonia (R717) preferred
  • Basic computer experience
  • Ability to wear a respirator and pass a fit test
  • Motor alignment experience a plus
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within a specified timeframe
  • Ability to read and interpret EPA regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to follow oral and written directions
