Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic mammographic exams utilizing advanced imaging equipment, ensuring accurate and high-quality results.
- Verify patient identity and review medical records to ensure appropriateness of exams or procedures.
- Interview patients to obtain, verify, or update medical history and assess risk factors, such as medications, pregnancy, and psychological indicators.
- Explain procedures to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up instructions.
- Set up equipment and acquire images as per script, reviewing results and documenting exceptions from established protocols.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, providing physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients.
- Participate in process improvement activities within the radiology practice, focusing on quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat analysis, and patient satisfaction.
- Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists, and new employees.
- Able to take call/standby as required by the department, and may perform duties of a Radiologic Technologist as needed.
Requirements:
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (M).
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training required.
- Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine the most age-appropriate method of providing radiographs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively instruct patients and comprehend physicians' verbal and written requests.
- Technical knowledge to operate specialized equipment and computers.
- Ability to work productively and effectively in a complex environment, handling multiple and changing priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding of American College of Radiology and MQSA requirements for accreditation.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate and utilize imaging equipment and supplies.
