Position Overview
The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer Trainee. This role involves participation in a comprehensive training program focused on law enforcement practices. Responsibilities include attending classroom sessions and engaging in physical training activities.
Compensation Structure
$60,274.50 annual salary for the initial training period (weeks 1-24)
$64,553.36 annual salary upon progression to Police Officer 1
$66,489.96 with an Associate's Degree, $68,426.56 with a Bachelor's Degree
$68,862.63 annual salary starting at week 51 (Police Officer 2)
$70,215.90 with an Associate's Degree, $72,994.39 with a Bachelor's Degree
Work Environment
The Metro Nashville Police Department operates 24/7. Employees must be prepared to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
Key Responsibilities
This position requires significant time spent in a classroom setting, alongside physical exertion such as running, walking, and other related activities.
Participants will complete a foundational training program covering essential topics such as criminal law, firearms handling, physical fitness, first aid, traffic enforcement, human relations, and report writing.
Qualifications
- Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- High School Diploma or GED plus one of the following:
* Two (2) years of active military service (Honorable Discharge)
* Two (2) years as a full-time, certified law enforcement officer
* Three (3) years of relevant full-time work experience
Note: Candidates must successfully complete the Metro Nashville Police Training Academy upon hiring.
Licenses Required
Valid Driver License
Additional Requirements
1. Minimum age of 21 at the start of the training academy.
2. U.S. citizenship or permanent legal residency with honorable military discharge is required.
3. Successful completion of a medical examination is mandatory.
