About the Role

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical systems, including electrical and instrumentation drawings, bill of materials, and specification data.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure that electrical designs meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure coordination between design disciplines.
  • Check calculations to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, and good engineering practice.
  • Determine construction quantities and provide construction with BOMs.
  • Consult with designers from other disciplines to coordinate cross-functional work.
  • Identify possible changes in scope and draft documentation for project teams.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design.
  • Familiarity with the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Ability to size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.
  • Able to determine motor control center loading.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
  • Knowledge and understanding of workflow/information flow between disciplines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements to produce electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC equipment, including motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc.
  • Familiarity and ability to produce 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques, both above and below ground.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment, including switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc., and perform calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings.
  • Ability to develop electrical installation specifications.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, detailed engineering schedule, and man-hour budget for small projects or areas of larger projects.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.
  • Developing design criteria and scope of work.
  • Forecasting hours to complete professional services.
  • Identifying information required and proactively obtaining it.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of 2D/3D AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Ability to design control packages, including loop drawings, PLC/DCS panel wiring, etc.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs and how to read.
  • Ability to coordinate with the process group to provide efficient equipment layouts and space usage.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships are highly developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with no supervision.
