Position Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned Engineer III or IV, possessing extensive practical expertise in executing electrical and automation initiatives. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Maintenance Manager and operational teams within a steel mill environment. This role encompasses the development and management of capital expense projects (CAPEX) from conception to execution. The ideal candidate will support ongoing process optimization throughout the facility, demonstrating hands-on experience in troubleshooting technical challenges related to industrial and manufacturing equipment. A solid understanding of safety protocols and standards relevant to industrial operations is essential. The Engineer will actively lead and engage in various team-oriented workgroups, requiring adaptability to a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Strong leadership, communication, data collection, and presentation skills are imperative.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical coordination and support in managing operating and capital expense processes by initiating and overseeing projects utilizing the capital expense (CAPEX) framework, including equipment monitoring and enhancements.
  • Conduct detailed engineering tasks in instrumentation, PLC, power distribution, and equipment integration, encompassing electrical design and automation system architecture.
  • Offer technical support for operations, collaborating closely with leadership on operational enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot existing equipment and processes.
  • Develop and refine engineering protocols.
  • Collect and interpret process samples and data.
  • Benchmark practices from other Gerdau Mills to integrate best practices.
  • Implement innovative technologies.
  • Train and develop technical operations personnel.
  • Conduct technical studies to support CAPEX investments.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives as applicable.
  • Contribute to the formulation of Annual Action Plans.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on industrial experience in planning and installing electrical systems and automation controls.
  • Preferred: ISA Certified Automation Professional Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, design, execution, scheduling, procurement, installation, and startup of electrical control systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and optimizing electrical control systems on production machinery.
  • Knowledgeable in industrial safety and construction methodologies.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft software such as Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and proficiency in Auto-Cad.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with equipment and machine design standards, including ANSI, ASTM, FM, NFPA, and IEC.
  • Understanding of NFPA-70 and NFPA-70E.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Experience with database systems for process control applications.
  • Strong programming capabilities with Rockwell Automation PLC systems.
  • Working knowledge of automation communication systems.
  • Installation and troubleshooting skills with AC and DC drives and motors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
