Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a CRNA, you will be responsible for providing high-quality anesthesia care to our patients, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Administer anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical procedures, including pre-anesthesia preparation, anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Conduct pre-anesthesia evaluations, including medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests to determine the patient's suitability for anesthesia.
  • Develop and implement anesthesia plans, taking into account the patient's medical history, physical condition, and the type of surgery being performed.
  • Monitor patients during anesthesia, adjusting the anesthesia plan as needed to ensure the patient's safety and comfort.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care, including monitoring the patient's vital signs, administering medications, and providing pain management.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, to ensure seamless care and communication.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Successful experience working as a staff CRNA in settings in which a broad range of adult anesthetic care is provided.

  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment for improvement of services for patient care.
  • Ability to practice nurse anesthesia with colleagues and peers utilizing a collaborative team concept of anesthesia care.
Work Environment

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The CRNA may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
