The Faculty Physician will provide high-quality medical care to patients in a clinical setting, while also assisting management in developing policies and procedures to meet patient needs.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly qualified Faculty Physician to lead the Sleep Section within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. The successful candidate will have experience and interest in sleep research, with a strong track record of scholarship, publications, and productivity in basic or translational research involving sleep.

As a faculty member of Wayne State University School of Medicine, the candidate will be expected to be involved in funded research and establish an innovative, independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural funding.

The Faculty Physician will participate in the clinical activities of the division, including rounding on clinical services and staffing outpatient clinics. They will also play a key role in training residents, sleep fellows, and pulmonary and critical care fellows, and will have the opportunity to participate in medical school basic science education based on their research focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide quality treatment to all patients in a professional manner
  • Participate in the teaching/training program(s)
  • Communicate with administrators and physicians to facilitate practice operations
  • Participate in team effort to guarantee efficient services to patients
  • Conform to the ethical code of conduct of their professional organization, to the Wayne Health Corporate Compliance Program, and all standards of the Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and to clinic policies and procedures
  • Maintain a current professional license, professional liability insurance at limits required by Wayne Health Credentialing as applicable
  • Attend meetings and training as requested, including participation in mandatory annual Wayne Health training in such areas as recipient rights, confidentiality, corporate compliance, prevention of violence, and management of unsafe behaviors, and cultural competence
  • Participate in professional development activities and keep current with healthcare trends and practices
  • Obeys confidentiality as required by all federal, state, regulatory, and Wayne Health policies
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training

Licensed M.D. or D.O., board certified in Internal Medicine and Sleep Medicine

Skills and Abilities
  • High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal, necessary to effectively communicate, establish, and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the Department and/or Practice
  • Excellent analytical ability necessary to independently identify and resolve extremely complex and unusual problems or discrepancies
  • Clinical knowledge to meet the medical requirements relating to various procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel, and/or financial data
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and manage time
  • Patient management skills necessary to provide quality care
