Job Summary:

RES Americas is seeking a skilled Controls Software Engineering Manager to lead our Control Systems Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and development of edge-based controller products for wind, solar, and energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical design and development of edge-based controller products for wind, solar, and energy storage systems.
  • Work collaboratively across RES teams to ensure that all stakeholders' requirements are addressed, and solutions are delivered efficiently.
  • Develop a diverse and talented team of engineers and software developers to innovate ideas and deliver solutions that meet or exceed our customers' expectations.
  • Lead the development of balanced software development and testing processes that produce high-quality results on schedule.
  • Participate in software development tasks as appropriate.
  • Develop budgets and resource plans to meet department goals.
  • Participate in department strategic planning.
  • Participate in relevant due diligence evaluations of business partners, engineering designs, and business development activities as required.
  • Identify and help develop intellectual property opportunities.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and experience with renewable energy to control system design.
  • Design and document contractual testing procedures for control systems.
  • Ensure that all product and project safety and security requirements are met.
  • Stay current with professional and industrial best practices.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. Master's degree a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a software engineering team.
  • Experience leading a team through technically complex product development.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience developing software and deploying into a production environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with control systems deployed to PLCs, PACs, RTACs, and/or embedded systems. Experience deploying control systems across wind, solar, or energy storage a plus.
  • Proficient in C# and Python. Able to provide effective code review in these languages.
  • Experience with Azure, IoT Edge framework, and Docker.
  • Experience with SCADA data acquisition, processing, and storage in a relational database and/or the cloud.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; other languages such as Spanish, French, or Chinese a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse international audience.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with external partners including customers and vendors.
  • Knowledge of power industry communication protocols (OPC, Modbus, DNP3, IEC61850).
  • Knowledge of networks and security best practices.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires occasional travel (up to 25% of the time) and working in a fast-paced environment. The employee must be able to lift and carry items up to 15 pounds.
