Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Scrap Champion will report to the Operations Leader and collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to optimize processes and material flow. Key responsibilities include understanding the interdependence between Novelis and external metal processors for optimum cost and working capital balancing, ensuring high inventory accuracy, and developing strategies to meet Novelis working capital targets while achieving required service levels for customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support a world-class safety culture and promote Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policy.
• Promote inventory control excellence at Guthrie Recycle Center and scrap consumption while maintaining production targets.
• Daily validation of inventory consumed vs. planned consumption to ensure accurate inventories and immediate reconciliation of discrepancies.
• Plan charges for upcoming campaigns with Operations and work with the Supply Chain Leader to ensure input needs are covered for the near term, emphasizing scrap consumption.
• Support, plan, and facilitate the movement of scrap or molten aluminum through the area, and train melt coordinators for consistent batch building.
• Identify RSI alloys and find opportunities to consume low-cost grade RSI units, and identify alternative practices to use the various scrap forms available safely.
• Plan and execute alloy transitions for all furnaces, and backup to the melt coordinators if needed on occasion.
• Work with Process Engineers to ensure vendor scrap chemistries are up to date, and communicate with the NNA recycling team on alternative low-cost inputs for use in blends.
• Coordinate various trials for different scrap alloys and forms with necessary stakeholders, and identify improvement opportunities in the calculating process.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College is preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience working with molten aluminum.
• Excellent interpersonal relations and verbal and listening skills.
• Ability to prepare and make group presentations, and work with colleagues to reach consensus decisions.
• A good understanding of manufacturing systems and computer skills.
• Personal traits should include utilizing human relation skills, empowering, training, understanding, and developing others to attain the objectives.
• Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
• Must be flexible and operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple tasks and prioritizing work.
• Ability to represent Novelis with external parties.
• Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays if necessary, and respond to trouble calls 24 hours a day.
• Management of operational supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five years of experience in the molten aluminum industry.

Location Profile

Novelis' Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie, Kentucky, approximately 15 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville, Tennessee, and Hopkinsville, Kentucky. As Novelis' newest facility, Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line along with a recycle center that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 300 residents.
