Overview

As an adjunct instructor, you will play a crucial role in delivering a high-quality educational experience for students at Johnston Community College. This position involves teaching responsibilities that align with the college's mission and educational objectives. You will report to the department chair and/or director, ensuring that all instructional duties are fulfilled in a timely and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction in assigned courses, adhering to the established syllabus.
  • Create a conducive learning environment that supports diverse learning styles.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and academic records for all students.
  • Utilize various teaching methodologies to cater to different learning preferences.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental guidelines regarding course materials and curriculum.
  • Act as an academic advisor, providing guidance and support to students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the college's assessment processes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold the college's standards in all interactions.
Qualifications:

Minimum: A Master's degree in Sociology or a related field, or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology.
Experience: A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required, with preference given to candidates who have two to three years of experience in a post-secondary setting, particularly in community colleges. Familiarity with online instruction and educational technology is advantageous.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical computations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Competence in using technology, including Windows, email systems, PowerPoint, and online learning platforms.
Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to communicate effectively and meet mobility requirements, including the ability to occasionally lift materials weighing up to 10 pounds.

The typical work environment is quiet, conducive to learning and teaching. This position does not include benefits.
