The Senior Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing and resolving intricate mechanical issues, focusing on complex coach systems. This role involves supervising and guiding junior mechanics, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing retrofit campaigns, providing team support, troubleshooting mechanical failures, and collaborating with operations to ensure the fleet's optimal performance.
Participation in regular meetings and training sessions is essential for continuous professional development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in heavy equipment maintenance.
- Preferred: ASE Transit Master Certification.
- Technical degree or equivalent experience is advantageous.
- Additional training from mechanical or technical institutions is desirable.
- A high school diploma or GED and a valid CDL with Passenger endorsement are mandatory.
- Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic tools and software is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ADA equipment, air conditioning systems, braking systems, chassis, cooling systems, engines, lighting, safety equipment, and transmissions is essential.
- Hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting is necessary.
- Familiarity with CAN networks and multiplexing systems is a plus.

- Proficient computer skills for diagnosing transit coach components.
- Ability to interpret and follow technical schematics.
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections based on mileage and time.
- Perform corrective maintenance by diagnosing issues using various diagnostic tools.
- Execute repairs and replacements of coach components as necessary.
- Test coaches to ensure proper functionality, including conducting road tests.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting complex electrical systems.
- Review repair manuals for guidance on repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and installations.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve technical issues.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior mechanics.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and cleanliness standards in the workplace.
