Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Medstar. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing technical duties related to drug distribution and dispensing in our oncology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare medications, including narcotics, for dispensing, ensuring accurate labeling and packaging.
  • Enter medication orders into the computer system, evaluating patient data, checking for drug allergies and duplications, and calculating dosage conversions.
  • Pick up medication orders from the patient care area at scheduled times and deliver filled orders to assigned nursing units and departments.
  • Assist in checking or investigating missing dose requests and prepare parenteral admixture solutions.
  • Interpret medication orders for appropriate strength, route, frequency, and duration, and monitor stock inventory levels and expiration dates.
  • Process drug charges and credits, and perform quality improvement activities such as code cart checks and outdated medication disposal.
  • Respond to phone calls regarding medication orders and exemplify Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • 3-4 years pharmacy technician and 2-4 years of hospital pharmacy experience (with IV admixture) preferred.
  • LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech Registry with the D.C. Board of Pharmacy required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize computer equipment, prepackaging machines, needles/syringes, and medication carts.
  • Basic mathematical skills and a working knowledge of the metric system.
Compensation

This position has a hiring range of $31.36.
