Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Minneapolis Public Schools. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing academic and social skills instruction to students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Create and implement IEPs that cater to the unique needs of students with disabilities, ensuring they receive a high-quality education.
  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers: Work closely with general education teachers to develop and implement strategies that support students with disabilities, promoting inclusive learning environments.
  • Provide Academic and Social Skills Instruction: Deliver instruction that addresses the academic and social needs of students with disabilities, fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  • Monitor Progress and Adjust Instruction: Regularly assess student progress, making data-driven decisions to adjust instruction and ensure students meet their IEP goals.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or Related Field: Possess a bachelor's degree in special education or a related field, with a strong understanding of state and federal laws governing special education services.
  • Minnesota Teaching License in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) or Academic Behavior Strategist (ABS): Hold a valid Minnesota teaching license in ASD or ABS, or be in the process of obtaining one.
  • Experience in Urban, Multicultural Education Settings: Possess prior experience in urban, multicultural education settings, with a proven track record of success in teaching students with diverse needs.
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Special Education or Related Field: Possess a master's or PhD in special education or a related field, with a strong background in research-based instructional practices.
