Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our team at Sunroad Automotive in Kearny Mesa, Ford & Kia. This is a non-exempt position that requires strong knowledge and understanding of diesel engine systems and components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain a variety of diesel engines and components for our fleet of trucks and other vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine performance issues, replace and repair worn parts and components including pistons, rings, bearings, seals, and valves.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and tune-ups on diesel engines, use special tools such as timing lights, compression testers, and scan tools to diagnose and repair engines.
  • Repair and adjust fuel injectors, fuel lines, and fuel pumps, inspect and test vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
  • Rebuild engines and other components as necessary, install and adjust engine components and systems, maintain records of maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Monitor and adjust engine performance parameters such as fuel pressure, air-fuel ratios, and timing, perform diagnostic tests to identify and diagnose engine malfunctions.
Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, experience working on diesel engines.
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record, ability to regularly lift 30 pounds; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description, must keep abreast of federal, state, and local regulations that affect operations, and comply with these regulations as well as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the eight automotive specialty areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics, must have knowledge of hydraulics and electronic systems.
  • Must possess basic math skills, must have strong mechanical aptitude, and excellent customer service skills.
Compensation and Benefits

  • An estimated salary range of $65,000 to $90,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
