Job Summary

As a Body Shop Journeyist at the Utah Transit Authority, you will be responsible for performing complex repairs on all UTA vehicles, including body and paint work, fabrication, and training other employees in new skills. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Make complex repairs on all UTA vehicles using various mechanic's tools
  • Rebuilds and fabricates components with little or no supervision
  • Teaches and/or assists employees of lesser skills in developing their skills and high standards of competence
  • Have a valid Utah Drivers License and be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Able to acquire and maintain DOT physical card, Roadway Worker Protection Certification, Blue Flag Worker Protection Certification, and UTA Wayside Power Certification
Requirements
  • Diploma or certificate from a two-year technical school in mechanical trades or one and a half years of related trade school experience or equivalent apprenticeship program training
  • I-car or ASE accepted
  • Able to acquire welding certificate including mig, aluminum, and stainless welding
  • Able to acquire forklift sit-down counter balance certification (UTA provided) and crane certification (UTA provided)
  • Knowledgeable in fiber glass and composite repairs
  • Have required tools
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and constantly aware of surroundings

Work Environment

This role requires regular and predictable attendance. The Utah Transit Authority is a drug-free workplace, subject to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations under 49 CFR Part 40, 655, and 219.
