Job Description

The Costume Department Coordinator reports to the Wardrobe Supervisor and Costume Designer. They are responsible for detailed organization within the department during prep, principal photography, and wrap. They should be proficient in continuity and on-set experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Production
    • Review the script and familiarize yourself with the story and characters
    • Get acclimated with sync on set with the project - make sure the project is synced on your phone
    • Assist in organizing cast closets
    • Help the supervisor create change bags
    • Organize and size tag all stock
    • Organize all supplies in bins and make notes of needed supplies so the supervisor can order
    • Create hanging supply bags for the costume truck, shop, and background world
    • Prepare all clothing for designer fittings and set up fitting rooms
    • Assist the supervisor in loading the wardrobe truck to get ready for filming
  • Filming
    • Familiarize yourself with the shooting schedule
    • Assist the supervisor in prepping and setting rooms - make sure all items are present when setting the room and ask questions if you feel something is missing
    • Keep track of continuity for the actors you are costuming. Take pictures, make notes
    • Upload all established looks into sync on set and write in the scene wear notes how the look was worn
    • Notate any actions that take place if clothing items are put on or taken off during a scene
    • Keep track of actor warming and cooling garments and items
    • Bring all necessary kit and actor items with you at the top of your day to set - so plan and think ahead of what you will need for the scene shooting on the day
    • Standby with sound while wiring actors
    • Communicate with the supervisor what we are shooting, turning around and moving on to, etc.
    • Let the supervisor know as soon as possible of any changes that happen on set that are not yet announced by production
    • At the end of the day, help wrap rooms. Gather all jewelry, jewelry trays, undergarments, costumes, and shoes unless otherwise specified
    • Make sure all notes and photos have been loaded into sync in the event that you are not returning the next day
    Requirements
    • Must be an IATSE Union member
    • Must be local to the area or willing to work as a local
    • Sync on Set
    • Clear Understanding of Continuity
    • Experience with First Team on set and in fittings
    • Experience with sound wiring
    • Minor hand sewing
    • Problem solver
