Commercial Scale Inspector

Job Summary:

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Weights and Measures Large Capacity Inspector. This role is responsible for enforcing the Georgia Weights and Measures Law and related regulations, testing and inspecting weighing and measuring devices, and investigating consumer complaints.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enforce the Georgia Weights and Measures Law and related regulations
• Test and inspect weighing and measuring devices, including vehicle scales, livestock scales, and forklift scales
• Investigate consumer complaints related to weighing and measuring devices
• Complete documentation of activities and prepare investigative summaries as needed

Requirements:

• Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within six months of employment
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to operate assigned equipment proficiently and safely
• Basic mechanical aptitude and mathematical ability
• Effective organizational and planning skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on an occasional basis

Preferred Qualifications:

• General knowledge of computers and software applications, including Excel and Word
• Experience in a related field, such as agriculture, horticulture, or environmental science

Working Conditions:

• Occasional overnight travel required
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to stand for long periods and walk intermittently
