Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Weights and Measures Large Capacity Inspector at the Georgia Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our Office of Weights and Measures, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of commercial weighing and measuring devices throughout the state.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce the Georgia Weights and Measures Law and related regulations to ensure compliance among commercial entities.
- Conduct thorough inspections and testing of weighing and measuring devices, including vehicle scales, livestock scales, hopper scales, warehouse scales, and forklift scales.
- Investigate consumer complaints related to weighing and measuring devices.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation of activities, including investigative summaries as needed.
Requirements:
- Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment proficiently and safely, with basic mechanical aptitude and mathematical ability.
- Effective organizational and planning skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency with standard office software applications.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on an occasional basis, bend as needed, distinguish colors, exhibit manual dexterity, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vocational/Technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited college.
- High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in the area of assignment.
- Two years of college, including 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional overnight travel required.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods.
