Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician II/III to join our team at Skagit County, WA. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing county roads, bridges, and stormwater systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including dump trucks, brooms, rollers, and chipper trucks.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections and report repairs when needed on assigned equipment.
  • Cut brush, grass, and weeds with hand tools and operate jackhammers, air compressors, and other equipment as needed.
  • Drive single axle dump trucks to move gravel, logs, pipes, and other materials.
  • Assist in the installation of culverts, guardrails, and the maintenance of bridges.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the scope of knowledge.
Requirements
  • Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
  • Typical path to obtain the required qualifications would be: two years' experience in road maintenance and equipment operation for Maintenance Technician II, and three years' experience or certification in road maintenance and equipment operation for Maintenance Technician III.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brakes within 10 months of hire.
  • Washington State Traffic Control Flagger Card within 6 months.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Most work is in the field, with exposure to extreme weather conditions, rough terrain. Must have hand-eye coordination to operate equipment, ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, walk, climb, and perform periods of extended physical labor.
