Job Overview:

  • The Special Education Intervention Coordinator is tasked with overseeing all facets of Special Education services and ensuring compliance, while also providing additional support to students who may not be formally identified for Special Education services.
  • This role requires a thorough understanding of current legislation related to special education, including but not limited to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Coordinator must adhere to all guidelines established in the Operating Standards for Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all students with disabilities have equitable learning opportunities alongside their peers.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom educators to ensure that student needs are met, IEP objectives are taught, and IEP requirements are fulfilled.
  • Design and implement instructional strategies for identified students, whether in the classroom or intervention settings, in both small groups and one-on-one formats to assist in achieving IEP goals.
  • Provide guidance to teachers on effective methods to address student needs.
  • Maintain proactive communication with school leadership regarding students who are not demonstrating expected progress.
  • Develop behavioral intervention plans for students whose conduct disrupts their own or others' learning and track their progress.
  • Assist in creating interventions and monitoring the effectiveness of those interventions for students who are experiencing difficulties but are not classified under special education.
  • Meet all compliance deadlines for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs).
  • Keep the school’s Special Education Planning files updated as meetings occur.
  • Be well-versed in Special Education documentation requirements and ensure timely completion of all necessary forms, including but not limited to: Prior Written Notices, Parent Invitations, Manifestation Determination Reviews, Referrals for Evaluation, Parent Consents for Evaluation, Evaluation Team Reports, and Individualized Education Plans.
  • Coordinate with psychologists for student evaluations.
  • Draft IEPs and gather relevant information from classroom teachers to establish specific, measurable IEP goals.
  • Review IEP drafts with classroom teachers and school leadership prior to team meetings.
  • Utilize designated software for IEP documentation.
  • Organize and facilitate team meetings for IEPs and ETRs.
  • Implement changes to IEPs based on team discussions.
  • Collect signatures during team meetings and provide finalized copies to parents.
  • Maintain comprehensive Special Education files.
  • Create progress reports for IEPs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to monitor goals and update progress reports each semester.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal deadlines.
  • Complete all required reporting for Special Education EMIS.
  • Annually update Section 504 plans.
  • Facilitate testing accommodations during state assessments.
  • Establish effective working relationships with students' families to support progress toward IEP goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership or management.
Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a Mild to Moderate Intervention Specialist.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with educators, staff, and the community.
  • Preferred experience in teaching within an urban educational environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.
