Role Summary:

The Quality Assurance Technician plays a crucial role in executing standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to food safety and quality assurance. Responsibilities encompass document management, data entry, laboratory analysis, and maintaining a presence on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-operational and operational sanitation inspections of the facility.
  • Perform ATP testing and environmental swabbing.
  • Execute chemical and physical analyses of in-process and finished products, including pH, water activity, and viscosity.
  • Verify calibration of plant equipment such as thermometers and scales.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment and materials, ensuring adherence to operational safety protocols.
  • Monitor temperatures in coolers, freezers, processing areas, and warehouses.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications through daily reviews of formulas and processing methods.
  • Verify inventory rotation for raw materials and finished products.
  • Conduct daily metal detector checks and label approvals.
  • Review and reconcile QA/QC records, including HACCP and net weight documentation.
  • Prepare and disseminate HOLD reports as necessary.
  • Compile data and generate reports for management review.
  • Utilize ERP systems for quality control checks and documentation.
  • Collaborate with USDA inspectors to address discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Audit employee hygiene practices and enforce sanitation standards.
  • Assist the QA Manager in continuous improvement initiatives and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate inspection files and summarize findings in reports.
  • Provide training to employees on hygienic practices and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with ERP and WMS systems is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish.

Experience and Education:

A minimum of two years of experience in food manufacturing is required. A high school diploma or GED is necessary, with HACCP certification preferred.
