Position Overview

The Exercise Physiologist plays a crucial role in the Cardiac Rehabilitation team, focusing on the development and implementation of exercise regimens tailored to individual patient needs. This position requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and adherence to established guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct comprehensive reviews of patient medical histories to prepare for initial assessments.
  2. Engage with patients and their families to identify educational requirements and establish functional treatment objectives.
  3. Work alongside physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care plans and communicate patient progress.
  4. Thoroughly explain treatment procedures to patients and their families prior to execution.
  5. Administer submaximal fitness evaluations and create personalized exercise programs.
  6. Develop exercise prescriptions in accordance with established guidelines.
  7. Implement safety and infection control protocols as per departmental and institutional policies.
  8. Efficiently operate departmental equipment, including exercise machines and monitoring devices.
  9. Set measurable outcomes, prioritize tasks, and select suitable interventions for clients.
  10. Assess the effectiveness of exercise prescriptions and modify treatment plans as necessary.
  11. Uphold patient confidentiality in compliance with regulations.
  12. Refer patients to physical therapy when indicated by departmental policies.
  13. Create Home Exercise Programs based on individual therapy sessions.
  14. Lead initiatives to maintain a patient-centered care approach within the Cardiac Rehabilitation program.
  15. Ensure availability of necessary supplies for patient care.
  16. Competently operate departmental equipment and monitoring systems.
  17. Conduct follow-up communications with patients as per departmental guidelines.
  18. Consult with patients regarding their rehabilitation as directed by healthcare providers.
  19. Schedule initial evaluations for patients at the rehabilitation clinic.
  20. Document all patient interactions thoroughly.
  21. Provide orientation tours of the rehabilitation facility to new patients as required.
Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: BLS certification is mandatory within 30 days of employment, prior to engaging in direct patient care. ACSM certification is preferred and must be renewed as per guidelines.
  • Professional Certification: Preference for ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist or ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist.
  • Experience/Training: A minimum of one year of continuous experience in a telemetry or similar cardiac environment is preferred.
