Job Title: Public Education Specialist

Covenant House of NJ is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Education Specialist to join our team. As a Public Education Specialist, you will play a critical role in conducting outreach and education with community organizations to prevent human trafficking and promote the services available to victims.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct outreach and education with community organizations to prevent human trafficking and promote services available to victims.
  • Support Resource Specialists in initial meetings with recovered victims to increase their receptiveness to services.
  • Identify, engage, and assist potential victims of human trafficking through street work and community relations.
  • Target communities with large groups of populations disproportionately impacted by human trafficking and exploitation.
  • Educate individuals at-risk of trafficking on workers' and victims' rights.
  • Participate in outreach meetings with local Human Trafficking Task Forces and Coalitions to establish and support partners in care.
  • Take leadership roles in relevant task forces and coalitions.
  • Inform the external community about all available CHNJ programs and services.
  • Make public and agency presentations and attend meetings with agencies and public officials as needed.
  • Organize and lead community contacts to reach more victims of human trafficking.
  • Use best practices to engage with people within the community and maintain fidelity to training materials developed in alignment with CHNJ's philosophy of care.
  • Assist survivors with immediate needs, including food, medical care, transportation, clothing, and emergency shelter.
  • Refer potential victims of human trafficking to Resource Specialists and other victim service agencies and community services.
  • Identify potential hot spots and provide street outreach and neighborhood engagement.
  • Collaborate with other Street Outreach Teams and participate in external outreach events.
  • Establish and maintain connections with other members of the HTVS team.
  • Input neighborhood partner contact information and document interaction with other providers within the SalesForce system.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures and Child Protection standards.
  • Assist with fundraising affairs and special events as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma and 3 years of work experience in a relevant field.
  • Lived experience of human trafficking required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills required.
  • Flexibility within their schedule for events and outreach outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to work in environments where participants are living, including outdoor locations.
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and SalesForce and ETO knowledge preferred.
  • Valid NJ driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Use of own transportation required.
