About the Role

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in the Outpatient Psychiatry department. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinicians in delivering high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and report patient information in accordance with hospital standards, ensuring timely and accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Assist prescribers in obtaining prior authorizations for psychiatric medications, utilizing clinical information from patient charts and coordinating with the care team.
  • Perform outreach to outside entities, such as pharmacies and visiting nurse agencies, to facilitate patient care.
  • Aid in intervisit EMR communications between clinicians and patients, ensuring seamless coordination of care.
  • Administer psychiatric assessment tools, such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale, as requested by practice clinicians.
  • Provide health education and share resources with patients, promoting informed decision-making and empowerment.
  • Collect vital signs and weights for clinic patients as needed, ensuring accurate and timely data collection.
  • Review medication lists with patients to queue up prescription refills, ensuring timely and accurate medication management.
  • Follow up with patients who miss appointments, documenting relevant information in the EMR and communicating with identified providers.
  • Respect and support patients' cultural beliefs, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences, fostering a patient-centered approach.
  • Help standardize procedures and troubleshoot issues as they arise, making recommendations to supervisors and administrators for process improvements.
  • Engage in creating a healthy, respectful work environment, promoting teamwork and collaboration among colleagues.
  • Precept and mentor new team members as needed, ensuring a smooth transition and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Perform quality assurance activities, maintaining and updating clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing practice.
  • Adhere to departmental requirements for required training, identifying specific learning needs and collaborating with leadership to develop a plan for growth and development.
  • Meet regularly with supervising providers to discuss clinical care, issues, activities, and project status, ensuring open communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Prior experience in a medical setting, preferably in outpatient psychiatry or mental health.
  • Basic knowledge of common psychiatric conditions and medications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, clinicians, and outside agencies.
  • BLS certification preferred, with the ability to obtain certification if not already held.
  • Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program preferred, with a strong foundation in clinical skills and knowledge.
