General Overview

As a vital member of the Fire and EMS Department, you will engage in critical firefighting and emergency medical services, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. Your role will encompass operating firefighting vehicles and medical units during emergencies and routine operations, effectively managing equipment at the scene of incidents, and executing life-saving measures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate fire apparatus to respond to emergencies, deploy hoses, and utilize firefighting tools until the situation is under control. Drive medical units to incidents, provide emergency medical care, and transport patients to advanced medical facilities.
  • Assist in extinguishing fires based on conditions and directives.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the fire station and grounds, ensuring all equipment is serviced and ready for use.
  • Conduct daily inspections and perform necessary maintenance on apparatus to ensure operational readiness. Document and report as required, participating in drills and training sessions.
  • Perform maintenance tasks at the station, including inspecting hydrants and clearing surrounding areas.
  • Provide emergency life support as a qualified EMS provider, rescuing individuals from hazardous situations.
  • Assist in training new firefighters in effective firefighting and rescue techniques.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing education to enhance skills in fire service operations and emergency medical techniques.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Handle tasks that may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Adapt to flexible shift schedules as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to respond promptly and exercise sound judgment in emergencies while interacting effectively with the public.
  • Certification in ICS200 and ICS700.
Special Qualifications:
  • DPSST Firefighter II certification or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
  • Apparatus Operator/Pumper certification.
  • Oregon EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic license or the ability to obtain it within three months of employment.
  • Current AHA BLS and ALS Cardiac Provider certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Fire/EMS experience.
  • Successful completion of an annual medical physical based on NFPA Standard 1582.
  • Passing a psychological assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • DPSST Fire Instructor I certification.
  • DPSST Fire Officer I certification.
  • Associate's Degree in a related field.
