About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Strategic Operations Director to join our team at Jewish Public Affairs. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to drive organizational growth, strategy, and operations.

The Strategic Operations Director will play a critical role in leading internal operations, building and implementing systems and efficiencies, and helping lead organizational strategy and direction. Working closely with our CEO and other senior leadership, you will set and advance our priorities and strategy, including:

  • Building out our Action Networks focused on Protecting Democracy and Countering Hate & Bigotry;
  • Strengthening partnerships with key organizations in the Jewish, interfaith, civil rights, labor, and democracy fields;
  • Developing a grasstops public affairs program;
  • Expanding our strategic community relations program that supports Jewish Community Relations Councils and other local communal partners.
Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement internal systems to manage fundraising and development, events and programming, advocacy and public affairs, communications, finance, information technology, and more;
  2. Serve as a key thought partner and advisor to the CEO on organizational strategy and growth;
  3. Represent the organization in certain meetings, coalitions, and events, and hold relationships with key organizational partners and stakeholders;
  4. Manage organizational culture and workflow, including leading team meetings and gatherings, identifying opportunities for professional development and team-building, and more;
  5. Directly supervise and manage a growing team of professionals and consultants whose responsibilities include administration, development, communications, and advocacy;
  6. Manage board relations, including coordinating board and committee meetings, board development and recruitment, and effective governance;
  7. Draft grant proposals, reports, and other development materials;
  8. Track organizational goals, metrics, and stakeholder engagement, regularly evaluating progress, and improving systems and programs as needed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least eight to ten years' experience in government, politics, advocacy, nonprofit, and/or development, including significant direct management experience;
  • A real understanding of government and politics, as well as the Jewish communal landscape;
  • Strong strategic communications and writing skills;
  • An organized self-starter who can collaborate, problem solve, and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines – including supporting both the principal and the broader team at the same time;
  • Passionate about the values and priorities at the core of JCPA's work, including democracy and pluralism.
Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of $130,000 - $160,000 commensurate with experience, plus full benefits that include health, dental, and life insurance and a retirement plan. The ideal candidate will be based in New York City or Washington, DC and will require some travel and limited evening and weekend work dependent on breaking news and events and programming.
