Job Title: Instrument Controls Electrical Technician

Amentum is seeking an experienced Instrument Controls Electrical Technician to join our team. As an Instrument Controls Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for the daily support activities, including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical services and components in a pharmaceutical research environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the subject matter expert in the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical services and components from 50v 600v volts.
  • Identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures.
  • General maintenance of equipment, including trouble shooting, assembling, installing, operating, calibrating, dismantling, and repairing all types of electrical equipment.
  • Maintain and control the electrical distribution system to provide a reliable source of electricity to all areas.
  • May serve as maintenance advisor to engineering in material selection, documentation, calibration, testing and problem-solving methodology, project scope and follow up.
  • Maintain electrical systems from 50-volt instrumentation to complex boiler and chiller controls with voltages up to 600 volts.
  • Maintain and control site-wide distribution systems.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment and distribution systems.
  • Operating various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Utilize test equipment to test motors, control circuits, motor drives, UPS systems, batteries, grounding, isolated power, ground-fault circuits/outlets, voltage, and other load conditions.
  • Inspects and performs safety tests on lighting/outlet circuits, generators, motors, appliances, tools, etc.
  • Ensures all circuits are properly protected and systems/equipment are installed and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the NEC and other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates work with outside contractors.
  • Performs preventive / predictive maintenance on industrial electrical controls and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and utilizes PPE as required.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Must be willing to enter into apprentice program and work towards WA state electrical license.
  • 5 years of experience as an instrumentation and controls technician / Electrician role including operating and maintaining instruments and electrical systems in a pharmaceutical, chemical, industrial, or related laboratory environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with digital controls systems, PLCs, etc.
  • Experience in working with electrical distribution systems up to 600V.
  • Knowledge in electrical systems including UPS, Transfer Switches, Generators, Breaker repair and operation.
  • Experience working with Reliability Engineers to determine Root Cause Failure Analysis and discuss vibration findings.
  • Experience in calibration and repair on instrument transmitters including Pressure, Pressure Differential, Vacuum, Temperature, RH, CO2, Speed, Flow, and Level.
  • Knowledge of interrelationship between digital controls systems and field instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of remotely operating valve inclusive of actuator, positioner, and valve itself.
  • Understanding of process automation and integrated relationship with automated steam and water systems.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for several types of respirators.
  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at our clients location.
  • Ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen. Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as requested.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Washington State Masters Electricians License.
  • Technical degree.
  • Experience working in a GMP or similar regulated environment such as hospitals, biomedical or pharmaceutical campuses.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, turbines, boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.
  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
