Job Summary

The Grants Manager is a key role at Affordable Housing Alliance Inc, responsible for securing funding for our mission of providing safe, affordable housing in our community. This multifaceted position combines strategic planning, project management, relationship-building, and writing skills.

The ideal candidate will be a resourceful, detail-oriented, and collaborative team member with excellent client and people management skills. They will coordinate with the leadership team to apply for, plan, and manage grant programs that support AHA's work. This includes researching funding opportunities, drafting narratives, preparing budgets, compiling grant application packages, tracking results, and ensuring grant compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive research to identify new public and private grant opportunities aligned with our programs
  • Analyze grant criteria and determine strategic fit for pursuing each opportunity
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and tracking system to ensure timely submissions

Grant Proposal Management

  • Lead the full grant proposal development process from initial concept and drafting to submission
  • Gather and synthesize information from cross-functional teams to build compelling cases
  • Ensure proposals comply with all guidelines and requirements

Funder Relationships

  • Nurture positive partnerships with existing funders through excellent stewardship
  • Serve as the main point of contact, keeping communication clear and transparent

Grant Implementation

  • Coordinate cross-departmental kick-off of awarded grants, assigning roles and timelines
  • Monitor progress against objectives and manage adherence to grant terms
  • Compile and submit interim and final grant reports in a timely manner

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and monitor grant budgets in partnership with the finance team
  • Ensure grant expenditures align with approved budgets and audit requirements
  • Maintain meticulous records of all applications, awards, and financial activities
  • Review financial data, monitor grant budgets, and work with the Finance department to track and audit grant-related spending.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and implement internal assessment systems, to provide timely monitoring and assessment of programs.
  • Compile documentation for compliance reviews for all regulatory requirements and other contracted entities under which services are provided.
  • Recommend improvements based on results analysis to optimize future initiatives

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required, Master's degree a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in grant management, with a proven track record of securing significant funding.
  • Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Mail, Calendar, Drive, Chat, Meet)
  • Working knowledge of the local (Central New Jersey) funding community and a willingness to learn about new funding opportunities
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local funding environment
  • Strong capacity to develop relationships with community organizations, foundations, corporations, and individuals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, leadership, board members, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
