Job Summary

The Great Lakes Water Authority is seeking a highly skilled Construction Inspector to join our Wastewater Operations - Construction Engineering Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the execution of contractor construction services for major and smaller projects related to the improvement and expansion of our water treatment facilities and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Maintain quality control standards by conducting inspections and testing of construction materials and equipment
  • Prepare daily and weekly activity logs, reports, and specialized reports for construction accounting and historical purposes
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine requests, secure corrections to defective work, and ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Attend construction meetings and monitor work schedules to determine progress and prepare estimates for contract payments
  • Issue field orders and secure reference tools and materials for construction projects
  • Estimate inspection staffing and equipment needs for proposed construction projects
  • Approve estimated work completed for monthly progress payments and conduct progress payment meetings
  • Prepare and issue progress payment certificates and review shop drawing submittals and requests-for-interpretation
  • Perform inspections of project sites to ensure contract compliance, quantity, and quality of work
  • Conduct plan or site surveying, soils, base, concrete, and material testing
  • Act as a liaison with governmental agencies, communities, and individuals affected by construction activities, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors
  • Ensure safety regulations are enforced on construction sites and wear personal protective equipment
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of construction management experience in relation to a water treatment facility and distribution system
  • EPA Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Certification
  • EPA Lead Abatement Certification
  • MIOSHA Confined Space Certification
  • MDEQ Soil Erosion & Soil Control Certification
Preferred Requirements
  • Completion of two (2) years of college-level engineering or construction-related courses
Essential Physical Requirements
