Responsibilities
A typical day for a Healthcare Support Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:
- Delivering patient care tailored to the physical, emotional, educational, and safety needs of individuals across various age groups.
- Ensuring optimal patient outcomes through sound judgment and proactive measures.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with patients, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient conditions and care provided.
- Taking initiative to exceed job expectations, enhancing personal performance, and identifying new opportunities for improvement.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary teamwork to develop and implement comprehensive care plans from admission to discharge, ensuring seamless transitions and continuity of care.
- Participating in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Welcoming patients and verifying identification.
- Preparing patients for assessments, examinations, and procedures while enhancing their satisfaction.
- Collecting vital clinical data and documenting findings accurately, promptly notifying the RN of any abnormalities.
- Performing blood draws and laboratory specimen collections using proper techniques.
- Conducting EKGs as directed and ensuring the readiness of all necessary medical equipment.
- Providing direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing and assisting with meals.
- Monitoring patient intake and output, documenting weights, and ensuring a safe environment by responding to call lights promptly.
- Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Technician program, or equivalent medical experience.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing patient needs, with a strong commitment to improving patient and caregiver experiences.
- Exceptional teamwork skills and dedication to ongoing education and high-quality patient care.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or certification in phlebotomy, EKG monitoring, and vital signs assessment.
- At least one year of experience as a PCT or CNA in a healthcare setting.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a comprehensive PCT program.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of hire.
