Position Overview
As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Emergency Access Representative plays a crucial role in the registration and reimbursement process for patients and their families. This position involves direct interaction with patients to gather essential information while ensuring a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts interviews with patients or their representatives, either in person or via phone, to collect necessary registration and pre-registration details.
- Accurately obtains and verifies insurance and billing information for all types of coverage.
- Performs daily audits of patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy, maintaining a standard of over 95% accuracy.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively while handling stress and making informed decisions.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with a diverse range of individuals, both in person and over the phone.
- Prepares identification bracelets and related paperwork for patient care, ensuring timely routing to the appropriate departments.
- Addresses the unique needs of patients, families, and visitors, identifying concerns and coordinating with relevant departments for resolution.
- Assists in training new staff members on all aspects of the role and participates in departmental meetings.
- Maintains a professional demeanor by keeping personal matters separate from work responsibilities.
- Exhibits competence in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values through ongoing proficiency assessments and adherence to service excellence standards.
- Willingness to learn and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Provides coverage for the Communication Center during breaks on the night shift, managing routine and emergency paging in accordance with established protocols.
This role requires a medium level of physical demand, including the ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods. Candidates must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds and assisting patients with mobility as needed.
Qualifications
Required: Proficiency in keyboarding (50 wpm), strong spelling, mathematical, and problem-solving skills; effective oral communication; attention to detail; and at least one year of clerical experience, including reception and telephone skills.
Preferred: Familiarity with medical terminology, data entry, and experience with third-party billing.
