Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welder Team Lead to join our team at Pegasus Steel. As a key member of our fabrication department, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of fabrication workers, ensuring the efficient flow of materials and the production of high-quality parts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision: Lead, mentor, and develop Welder I and II team members, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
  • Quality and Safety: Perform job tasks safely, ensuring personal safety and the safety of subordinates, and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Process Improvement: Assist in ensuring the work area is properly set up to maximize throughput, and assist the supervisor in managing daily expectations to achieve throughput goals.
  • Performance Management: Perform daily audits of team members for procedural compliance, and provide constructive feedback to improve performance.
  • Technical Expertise: Read and interpret job travelers, blueprints, drawings, welding procedures, and joint surface index, and perform advanced welding machine setup and troubleshooting.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, both orally and written, and maintain a respectful and professional approach while leading and motivating the team.
  • Project Management: Assist the supervisor with project documentation, and conduct pre-shift briefs on safety issues and production goals.
  • Team Development: Promote a culture of mentoring and development, and help enforce all company policies and procedures.
  • Housekeeping: Drive housekeeping within the team, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, successful completion of an accredited trade school welding program or equivalent, and 3 or more years of demonstrated NAVSEA experience.
  • Technical Skills: Successful completion of 10 weld tests, including FCAW, GWAW-Pulsed, GMAW-Spray, and GMAW-Pulsed Alloys, and completion of Pegasus Welder Workmanship Training (WWT).
  • Soft Skills: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, ability to communicate with cross-functional groups, and ability to build a high-performing team.
