Research Scientist IV

Job Summary
The Department of Public Health seeks a highly skilled Research Scientist IV to lead the development of laboratory safety programs and protocols. This role requires expertise in microbiological sciences, biosafety, and biosecurity, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement laboratory safety programs and protocols based on advanced research and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate a unified laboratory safety program for the Center for Laboratory Sciences, working closely with Laboratory Division Chiefs, Branch Chiefs, and Research Scientist Supervisors.
- Apply advanced knowledge of biological safety and biosecurity, infectious disease prevention, hazardous waste management, risk assessment, and risk management.
- Collaborate with research scientists to apply advanced knowledge of containment, disinfection, and sterilization of hazardous materials and environmental control.
Requirements
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as microbiology, biology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in laboratory safety, biosafety, and biosecurity.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Working Conditions
The Research Scientist IV will work under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II, Operations Branch, Laboratory Operations Section Chief. The selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment and continue to maintain California residency as a condition of employment.
