Forensic Scientist Bio/DNA

Candidates must possess a strong foundation in forensic science, with a focus on bio/DNA analysis. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field, and a minimum of 16 semester hours of chemistry. A forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission is also required.
Responsibilities- Conduct laboratory tests, analyses, and identifications of physical evidence from crime scenes.
- Interpret analytical and instrumental results, and prepare written opinion reports.
- Train on testimony as an expert witness in court.
- Work under close supervision, with minimal latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
- A minimum of 16 semester hours of chemistry.
- A forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission.
- Ability to work effectively with laboratory, legal, and law enforcement personnel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The physical and environmental demands of this job include:
- Ambulatory skills, e.g. stand, walk, sit.
- Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity.
- Ability to exercise visual acuity, e.g., stereoscopic vision sufficient to perform detailed work, perceive minute differences and details, and ability to withstand the strain of continued close work.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions. State of Texas retirees may be rehired for full-time, non-commissioned positions only under very specific circumstances.
