Summer Agronomy Internship

Southern States' Summer Internship Program is designed for college students seeking hands-on experience in the agronomy field. To be eligible, students must maintain a GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above and be currently enrolled in a college or university. The program offers competitive pay and a 10-12 week commitment of 40 hours per week.

Program Overview

The internship provides an opportunity for learning and engagement in various functional areas within the Agronomy field. As an intern, you will serve in various capacities within each functional area, allowing for on-the-job training and development of specialized knowledge, skills, and operational experience.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Week 1: General overview and initial assignments, focusing on a general understanding of Southern States and the complexity of the business.
  • Week 2: Perform duties under close supervision, shadowing other employees to learn techniques for delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Weeks 3-5: Work with Agronomist, Agronomy Sales Managers, and Agronomy Operations Managers to resolve questions and concerns.
  • Week 6: Collaborate with District Precision Ag Specialist on soil sampling, making fertility recommendations, and scouting.
  • Weeks 7-9: Assist in areas of the location while shadowing other employees to gain additional knowledge of working in an Agronomy environment.
  • Week 10: Recap report and wrap-up with General Manager.
Qualifications
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Able to use iPhone and iPad technology, including mobile applications.
  • Valid driver's license and 19 years old to drive company vehicles.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • May require climbing, stooping, bending, and crawling on a frequent basis.
  • Possible contact with hazardous chemicals and working in adverse weather conditions.
