About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineering Project Manager to join our Storm Water Services team in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing a team of project managers who oversee the planning, design, and construction phases of various storm drainage improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage multiple project managers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Assist the Program Manager in workload leveling and meeting the annual Storm Water Capital Improvement Program budget.
  • Provide technical expertise to support the development and implementation of policies, processes, and standards of practice for the city.
  • Coach, mentor, and guide staff on processes, policies, and standards of practice.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, including schedules and budgets.
  • Review project fee estimates, scoping documents, planning reports, construction plans, cost estimates, and contract specification submittals for technical competency and consistency.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of staff.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Division, Department, and city on storm water issues.
  • Develop and implement activities to improve team processes, work practices, and performance.
  • Communicate and respond to citizens, the public, management, and city officials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and five (5) years of progressive work experience in planning, design, and construction of storm drainage systems.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in stormwater engineering principles, design, construction, and permitting practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others.
  • Excellent leadership skills, organizational, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, prepare, and explain complex technical reports, data, technical specifications, and recommendations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments, city officials, and the public.
