Job Overview

The City of Murphy's Police Department is looking to enhance its team by adding a Licensed Law Enforcement Officer. In this role, you will operate under the direct supervision of the Shift Sergeant or Officer-in-Charge during their absence, delivering essential crime prevention and law enforcement services throughout the community. Your responsibilities will include proactive patrolling, initial investigations, and traffic management within a designated area, all while embodying the core values of the City of Murphy.

Work Schedule
Must be willing to accept on-call duty status and work flexible hours, including all shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patrols in a designated area to promote public safety and enhance community well-being.
  • Engage in community policing efforts, including attending community meetings and providing problem-solving resources.
  • Analyze crime data and collaborate with other divisions to address crime trends effectively.
  • Respond to various calls for service, including disturbances and suspicious activities, taking appropriate action.
  • Secure crime scenes and apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities.
  • Direct traffic and enforce relevant traffic laws, issuing citations and conducting crash investigations.
  • Complete necessary reports, including patrol, offense, and arrest documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing training to meet all mandated requirements set by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow officers.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to the appropriate authorities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or G.E.D required.
  • Must be at least 20 years and 180 days old at the time of application.
  • Must hold a valid peace officer license in Texas through TCOLE.
  • Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License without restrictions (except 'A').
  • Two years of full-time police experience within the last five years.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Special Requirements
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and accept on-call duty.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and job performance assessment.
  • Must successfully complete a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field from an accredited institution.
