QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification Required: RD Licensure or RD eligible with credentialing obtained within 90 days of hire.

- The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, tasked with delivering high-quality medical nutritional therapy to patients. Responsibilities encompass sharing pertinent information with team members, food services, and medical personnel, as well as providing education to staff, patients, families, and others as necessary.
- Ability to endure up to four hours of continuous work. The role requires occasional walking, standing, and prolonged sitting. There may be a need to adjust body positions to access equipment, materials, and files from various heights. Capability to lift or carry objects weighing up to ten pounds continuously, twenty pounds frequently, and fifty pounds occasionally. Occasionally, the ability to push/pull items exceeding sixty pounds is required. Fine motor skills are necessary for writing, computer usage, and certain patient care techniques. Adequate vision is essential for observing patients' non-verbal cues and conducting skin assessments. Effective communication with patients and others is crucial.
- The position necessitates independent problem identification, abstract reasoning, and adaptability to new situations, changing environments, and information, along with quick decision-making. A high level of selective attention and concentration amidst distractions is essential.
- Job requires legibility, spelling accuracy, and logical organization of sentences and paragraphs. Familiarity with professional and medical terminology is necessary.
- Strong communication skills are required, including the ability to express complex ideas, negotiate, actively listen, and engage in dialogue with multiple parties.
- Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with various units of measure are required, along with the ability to compute ratios, rates, percentages, and use equations accurately.
- Comprehension of abstract concepts and the ability to make inferences are essential. Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to interpret lab values is required.
- The role primarily involves indoor work, with occasional outdoor responsibilities. Regular interaction with others is expected, sometimes in crowded environments. Schedule fluctuations may occur due to patient census, documentation needs, or program development. Occasional exposure to odors, temperature variations, and hazards related to food preparation, storage, and delivery may be present.
- Evaluates the nutritional status of patients and formulates tailored nutrition care plans.
- Documents all patient assessments, interventions, education, interdisciplinary communication, and outcomes accurately and promptly.
- Takes into account medical, physical, psychological, environmental, age-related, cultural, ethnic, religious, and language needs when planning and executing nutritional interventions.
- Monitors the effectiveness of nutrition care plans and makes necessary recommendations and adjustments.
- Coordinates nutrition care with food services and provides guidance, education, and direction to dietetic technicians and food and nutrition staff as appropriate.
- Offers education, training, and supervision to support staff, volunteers, paraprofessionals, or other disciplines as needed.
- Plans for discharge and educational needs, providing necessary materials, referrals, and resources.
- Participates in team meetings to share patient data and goals, collaborating with team members to develop and implement interdisciplinary care plans.
- Encourages continuous quality improvement and collects Quality Assurance/Compliance data.
